Orchids, get them ready for winter

As the weather gets colder, you might find yourself wondering about how your orchids will do and what type of orchid care you should provide. Luckily, they generally like the same climate as people do, which is why they are such good indoor plants.

How about bringing a stylish touch to your home then? At the Plant Centre, you will find an extraordinary offer: Buy 2 orchids just for £10!

Light, temperature and humidity

In winter when the sun is weakest, place phalaenopsis in direct sunlight in a south-facing window and a north or east-facing window in summer. If too shaded, the plant will grow slowly and fail to bloom.

Phalaenopsis need temperatures above 15-18C (60-65F) and for this reason, should not be placed outside during the summer. Average indoor temperatures are fine. Phalaenopsis have fleshy leaves which store water and are tolerant of the low relative humidity found in centrally heated rooms.
