The Healthy, The Mighty and The Naughty

Strawberries are here to stay – well, at least for the next couple of months.  So why not make the most of them while they’re fresh, juicy and likely, local?

We have gathered three simple recipes to relish strawberries in three different ways.

We’ll leave it up to you how often and what version you’ll be enjoying the most!

 

 

THE HEALTHY

Strawberry-Flax Smoothie

Prep: 5 minutes  |  1 serving

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup frozen strawberries
  • 3/4 cup plain low-fat yogurt
  • 1/2 cup fresh orange juice
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 tablespoon flaxseed meal

PREPARATION: 

  1. Place the strawberries, yogurt, orange juice, honey, and flaxseed meal in a blender.
  2. Blend until smooth and frothy.

 

THE MIGHTY

Fresh Strawberry Shake

Prep: 5 minutes  |  4 servings

INGREDIENTS

  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1 pound strawberries, hulled
  • 1 pint vanilla ice cream

PREPARATION: 

  1. Combine the milk, strawberries, and ice cream in a blender.
  2. Blend until mostly smooth with some pieces of strawberries remaining, 10 to 15 seconds.
  3. Divide between four glasses and serve immediately.

 

THE NAUGHTY

Strawberry Banana Margarita

Prep: 5 minutes  |  3 servings

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup frozen strawberries, hulled and halved
  • 1 ripe banana frozen, peeled and sliced
  • 4 1/2 ounces (1/2 cup plus 1 tablespoon) tequila
  • 1 1/2 ounces (3 tablespoons) triple sec
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lime or lemon juice
  • 1 cup crushed ice

PREPARATION: 

  1. Place all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth but still very thick.
  2. Pour into chilled margarita or other stemmed glasses.
